082. F.N.H.H. Node price too great.
Happy Friday fam!
For those of you in the U.S., hope y’all are excited for the long weekend and have some great plans 🍻. We know @fastfreddie is ready to knock a few cold ones back after reading through all the questions yall want to ask @diamondhands 😂. Before we ourselves get offline for a bit, we’ve got a fresh issue of @BitsTODAY’s Friday Night Happy Hour for you, complete with a deep dive on everything that’s goin down in the world of BitClout nodes 👨💻 (and lots more). So hop onto your fav BitClout node and get your fav drink in hand — let’s do this thang 🍺.
Bits on the menu tonight:
BuzzClout: Exclusive updates from @bithunt ⚡️
Ubiquitous UX drops: can the BitClout node flywheel start to spin? 🔁
Project in focus 🔎: @GiftClout rolls out new in-(node)-vations 🔬
Moon markets 🌙: @CreatorFund makes it rain (for the umpteenth time)
Diamondhands’ drops 💎
#1 BuzzClout
Ok ok, we are back after a little snafu with our stats on Wednesday (aka @dripcult is moving across the world and we forgot to ask him for stats before he got on a plane 😬). We’re back now with stats from @bitcloutsignal:
Nor will we neglect our duties in relaying @bithunt’s data today, either. See below for an update on the world of community projects on BitClout 👀:
#2 Ubiquitous UX 💦: can the BitClout node flywheel start to spin? 🔁
What’s been up on the dev front across BitClout? Lots more on the node development side of things, that’s for sure. First and foremost, we got confirmation from @diamondhands (and reported out by @tijn) that node operators will have the discretion to charge different fees for transactions on their nodes than those in place on bitclout.com 🤑.
While it’s unlikely any of us are clamoring to pay HIGHER fees, providing node operators with this optionality is important to incentivize and spur development. For instance, if someone develops a great node for NFTs (e.g. @supernovas), it could be reasonable for them to charge slightly higher NFT minting fees to remunerate the node and fund its operations 💸.
Not a node operator, but still hoping to earn some more $clout? We’ve been saying it for what feels like weeks, but referrals are inching closer and closer from the looks of what’s goin down on GitHub:
And while nodes become more lucrative for their operators and we start referring more and more new users to them (ideally), @PaulBurke is working diligently to provide users more security whenever they use BitClout identity to log in to nodes and other applications. What’s the latest web extension from the developer of bitclout.plus? @overridentity, designed to give users more insight and control over what permissions they’re signing off on:
Looking at the full combo of more incentives for node operators, more users coming in from referrals and more security for said users to feel confident on nodes…? Could be pretty powerful if you ask us… but we’re also biased 😉. Ideally this is the formula to take BitClout from concentrated on the bitclout.com global feed to a more decentralized, global scale 🌎.
#3 Project in focus 🔎: @GiftClout rolls out new in-(node)-vations 🔬
While the economic calculus for nodes improves, these nodes are doing a lot to integrate new, novel features to build a better feedback loop for improving BitClout itself, too 🔁. Notably, the @giftclout node (GiftClout.com) has implemented functionality to make it easier for users to make recommendations and give feedback on the frontend of the node itself 🗳️:
If your previous excuse for not providing feedback to BitClout was the clout improvement proposal (CIP) process was too complicated … well, now you’re out of excuses. Unless you’ve already had a few 🍹 tonight, in which case your feedback can probably wait until tomorrow ;).
One piece of feedback we’ve all been giving and hearing that @GiftClout has already taken into consideration? Well, we’re all probably reaching different levels of NFT overload, ranging from modest to about-to-leave-BitClout-if-I-see-one-more-mf-NFT 😬. Since NFTs launched on BitClout and quickly became a great way for creators to earn $clout, there’s been an absolute deluge of new NFT drops and new NFT accounts poppin’ up left and right. Some are good, some are kinda sucky tbh. At times, this can clutter our ‘Following’ and ‘Global’ feeds to the point where they are almost unusable. That’s where @GiftClout is coming in with a simple fix — make a dedicated feed to separately house all the NFTs on their node 🏠🖼️:
If you’re ready to reexperience what BitClout’s feeds were like pre-NFTs … head on over to GiftClout.com and give it a nostalgic Friday night surf 🤙🏄.
#4 Moon markets: @CreatorFund makes it 🌧️ (for the umpteenth time)
For those of you who weren’t able to make it, the @BitsTODAY squad, as well as some legends like @yazin, @darian_parish, and @paulburke, had a good discussion the other night on @ChimeIn about how as we enter ‘phase 2’ of BitClout, we need to make sure that economic activity on BitClout remains vibrant as new users onboard 📈. The ease of creating social tokens (creator coins) on BitClout coupled with the excitement we all experienced when we got our first investments (and hit our first 10x investments in our fellow creators) are a big part of why we’re all still here months later, after all.
As such, the efforts of folks like @CreatorFund to keep investment activity rolling on BitClout can’t be highlighted enough. In fact, over the past few days, @CreatorFund has been making it 🌧️ on lots of active creators again:
It’s hard to quantify just how instrumental @MarioNawfal’s fund has been in keeping active creators excited during months of less-than-inspiring action in the $clout price and in the overall level of engagement on the platform 📉. One thing is for sure, the existing community, including leaders of important BitClout apps like @Cloutfeed, see the value and appreciate it 🤗:
Here’s to hoping that (i) all that hard work pays off as BitClout starts to scale again and (ii) @CreatorFund inspires all of us, as well as other future funds, to keep participating and spreading the love across BitClout. And luckily, we’re already starting to see (ii) come to fruition 🤩. With input and funding from the original @CreatorFund squad, there’s a new player in town that’s buying up the creator coins of women on BitClout 💁♀️, @MissCreatorFund:
Massive shout out to @Zoobie, the brains behind the @MissCreatorFund movement and also the person spearheading the creator coin buys!
More support for women creating on BitClout has long been a focal point of discussion. There are barely any women represented in the top echelons of the creator coin ranks, and we imagine the overall share of creator coin holdings at the macro BitClout level skews massively male, too. The best time to change that was four months ago. The second best time? It's now ⌛.
Beyond @MarioNawfal’s funds, economic stimulus should certainly come from the top-down too, and we’d love to see the core team evaluate options like network usage rewards and airdrops for active users in addition to the existing $10 incentive to go through KYC.
Further, a grassroots push to keep hopping on homies’ cap tables, buying NFTs, and making it rain 💎s, is important too 💪. What did you do today to spur economic dynamism on BitClout? We might start asking that question at the door to our Happy Hour every week, tbh. A little can go a long way 🌙✨!
And with that… @nvo is off to the beach for the weekend 🏖️! @dripcult is chillin in Amsterdam, and @ASG is probably doing some dope dad shit too. Get out there folks — hope y’all have a great one and stay safe. See y’all back here real soon ✌️
Much love,
@BitsTODAY
